Frequently asked questions
Is IP Address Lookup free?
Yes. IP Address Lookup is free and does not need an account.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs in your web browser, so it works on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iOS.
How accurate is the location?
The location is worked out from the IP address, not from GPS. It usually points to the right country and often the right city or region, but never to a street or a house. Mobile networks and VPNs can show a city far away.
What does “private address” mean?
Addresses such as 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x and fd00::/8 are used inside homes and offices. They are not reachable from the internet, so they have no provider or location.
Is the address I look up saved?
No. The lookup runs on our server against local databases and the address is not stored.
